William Jewitt (c.1773-1837) was a pen and pocket knife manufacturer, who was probably working at 96 Pond Street in the 1820s (and may have been involved in Jewitt & Wragg in the Wicker, which was listed in 1818). In the 1830s, William Jewitt was listed in Duke Street, Park (with William Jewitt Jun. – almost certainly his son – an engraver working in Pond Street, also living in Duke Street). William Jewitt, cutlery manufacturer, Duke Street, died ‘after long and painful affliction’ on 15 July 1837, aged 65 (Sheffield Independent, 22 July 1837). He was buried in St James’s graveyard.
