Joseph Woolhouse was a table knife manufacturer, who was listed in directories in 1787 at Lambert Croft and in 1797 at Workhouse Lane. His trade mark was ‘SWAIN’. He may have been the father of Joseph Woolhouse, but apprenticeship and baptismal records do not shed much light on any possible relationship. Joseph Woolhouse did not appear in the Sheffield directory of 1811. Perhaps he had died. A cutler of that name was buried at the parish church (St Peter & St Paul) on 16 January 1807.
