In 1905, Sheffield Metal & Wire Co Ltd was registered (with £2,000 capital) at 34 Cambridge Street. Subscribers included the partners of Larder & Burgess. In the interwar years, the firm operated under (Peter) Frank Lynch (c.1876-1936), its former manager, and his two sons: Peter Lynch and Frank Brownhill Lynch (1906-1998). In 1948, capital was increased from £6,000 to £20,000. As Sheffield Metal Co (Metalco House, Cambridge Street), the firm specialised in the manufacture of spoon and fork blanks to the trade. At that time, the business produced 1,500 gross of spoons and forks each week. By the 1970s, Sheffield Metal Co was the leading member of the Spoon & Fork Blank Manufacturers’ Association and had links with firms such as Turners (Eyre Street), and Old Park Silver Mills Co Ltd. The latter firm was taken over to supply Sheffield Metal Co with rolling capacity. Frank B. Lynch was interviewed by Valerie Answer for her book on little mesters (1980)1. In 1984, Sheffield Metal was absorbed by Nickel Blanks.
