This firm, incorporated in 1955, was at Infirmary Road, Rawmarsh, near Rotherham (though it later had a Sheffield office in Church Street). Products included pinking shears. However, in the 1970s – faced with Far Eastern imports of plastic bow (lightweight) scissors – it introduced ‘Shearline 2000’ scissors. Patented by Brennand Gunson (1923-1984), this design had a plastic body, with stainless steel blades moulded in, combined with a snap clip and pivot (which allowed separation for easy cleaning). In 1986, Russell won a Design Council Mobil Corporation award for small firms (worth £10,000). But Russell was bankrupt in 1995 and acquired by Kutrite.
