John Richardson was born in Rotherham in about 1824. He was a spring-knife cutler, who may have been living in Garden Street by 1841. By the 1850s, he was living with his wife, Eliza, in the Park. He made fancy pen and pocket knives at Dacre Street/Bernard Lane. He was living in Carlisle Street in 1871; and was a boarder in Portand Street a decade later. John Richardson, spring knife cutler, died at Portland Street and was buried at Burngrave Cemetery on 18 July 1890, aged 67. His wife, Eliza, had died in 1876 (aged 48) and was buried in the same cemetery.
