By the early 1820s, Matthew Rhodes partnered James Swift in Swift & Rhodes, scissors makers and cutlers. In 1824, this was dissolved. In the following year, Rhodes advertised in the local directory as a scissors, scissor knife, and razor manufacturer, 24 Meadow Street. By 1828, Benjamin [sic?] Rhodes was dealing in the same products from that address. In 1828/29, Matthew Rhodes was based in Fargate as a pen, pocket, razor, and scissors manufacturer. No listing appeared after those years. He may have been Matthew Rhodes, aged 39, who was buried in St Paul’s churchyard on 16 February 1832.
