John Revill (1820-1890) advertised in the Sheffield directory (1860) as a manufacturer of spring knives in Leicester Street and St Philip’s Road. He was the son of Isaac Revill, a silversmith, and his wife, Charlotte. In 1861, the business employed three men and three boys. In 1864, John Revill was declared bankrupt, but he was later discharged and resumed business. John Revill died on 28 March 1890, aged 69. He was buried in the General Cemetery. The family grave eventually included the remains of Charlotte (d. 1857, aged 76), Isaac (d. 1877, aged 88), and John’s widow, Grace née Mercer (whom he had married at Christ Church, Pitsmoor, in 1859 and who died in 1895, aged 74).
