According to one report, this cutler employed 136 setters-in; and sent goods to America (Sheffield Independent, 21 November 1835). He advertised in the Sheffield directory of 1839, using an ornate coat of arms and ‘Dieu et Mon Droit’ motto. George Rodgers offered pocket, folding, erasing, desk, lock, sneck, dagger knives; also a full range of best-quality razors, and table knives, and scissors. The address was Norfolk Lane Works; with George Rodgers later residing in Arundel Street. He appears to have been a typical little mester, employing six men in 1861. Norfolk Lane remained George Rodgers’s works address until about 1868. The last listing for George Rodgers was in 1871 in Charles Lane, where he employed four men. His home was in Eyre Street, where he died on 16 March 1873, aged 69. He was buried at Ecclesall.
