John Needham (1818-1898) was apparently the son of Charles and Hannah Needham (and thus the brother of Charles Needham). John was a cap and ferrule and silver handle manufacturer at Jehu Lane/Commercial Street (1848-1866) and Arundel Street (1867-1891). He registered silver marks in 1848 and 1881. In the 1870s, he was landlord at the Talbot Hotel, Arundel Street. He was involved in property disputes and in 1881 was jailed for two months for maliciously wounding John Kirkby Smith, a tobacco manufacturer in Arundel Street (Sheffield Independent, 5 April 1881). Needham died at the back of 71 Arundel Street on 1 May 1898 and was buried in Burngreave, leaving £218.
