James Marsh was a table knife cutler at Hollis Croft, who employed two boys in 1861. He died on 15 August 1872, aged 78. His son, by his wife Elizabeth, was Joseph (c.1827-1900). The latter also became a table knife manufacturer at Hollis Croft. By 1871, when he lived in Suffolk Street, Joseph employed four men and two boys. In 1878, he left Sheffield and became inn keeper at the Oddfellows Arms, Douglas, Isle of Man. By 1891, he had retired and returned to Sheffield. He died at Aldred Road on 8 October 1900, aged 73. He was buried in the General Cemetery, leaving £1,081.
