William Marsden, table knife manufacturer, was based at Pool Works and Black Swan Inn (where he was victualler) at 21 Burgess Street. He had been born in Baslow. In 1851, he had five other cutlers (including apprentices and assistants) living with him. In 1861, he told the Census that he employed seven hands. Charlotte, his wife, died in 1863, aged 57. He died on 1 May 1865, aged 56. Both were buried in the General Cemetery.
