By the 1950s, this firm was listed at 100-104 West Street, though the Mortons had apparently been involved in scissors manufacture for four generations. Manufacturing ended in 1983, though the owner Hugh Morton began selling general cutlery from a shop on the ground floor. By the start of the 1990s, Morton’s cutlery shop had been sold (and under new ownership moved further along West Street). In 1996, Hugh Morton and his son, Patrick, launched Abbeydale Brewery. The dilapidated Morton building on West Street was eventually renovated.
