This table knife and razor manufacturer appeared fleetingly in only one source – The London Gazette, 28 February 1826 – which recorded its dissolution. The partners, though, are identified: Joshua Mottram, Joseph Cooper, and Abraham Howe. Attempting to match these men with individuals in the Sheffield directories is difficult. But it seems that Joshua Mottram, the son of an Ecclesall blacksmith, was a farmer. Abraham Howe was a cooper. Joseph Cooper might have been a brewer and victualler. That would be an odd combination of partners for a cutlery firm, but they may have regarded it as an investment opportunity. Abraham Howe – if it was the same man – later became involved in William Jackson & Co. He also prospered as a partner in the Don Brewery and as a farmer at Bradfield, near Heeley.
