A pen and pocket knife maker, Thomas Milner was listed in 1817 in Pea Croft. He also manufactured brass bolsters. By 1828, Milner was listed as a maker of Spanish (dagger) and lock knives. His life is obscure. However, Thomas Milner, cutler, residing in Solly Street, was buried in St Peter’s churchyard on 30 December 1832. He was aged 63. In 1833 and 1837, the business was listed as Thomas Milner & Son, which continued to specialise in Spanish and lock knives. The son may have been ‘John’, though confusingly two John Milners were active in the same streets in the 1830s and early 1840s (see John Milner). Thomas Milner & Son was not listed after 1841. In 1845, a John Milner was listed as a spring knife manufacturer and shopkeeper at the former Edward Street address of Thomas.
