Joseph Lawton was a razor maker, who was listed in 1818 at Castle Street. He joined another razor maker, William Staniforth, in a joint venture (though they apparently continued to operated independently). This was dissolved in 1819. Their subsequent lives have been difficult to trace. Joseph Lawton, grinder, was listed in 1821 at Back Lane (identity unknown); and the Staniforth name is too common to trace. However, St James’s Church register recorded the burial of Joseph Lawton, aged 32, on 28 November 1823.
