Kirkham & Co, at the back of Sarah Street, was active by 1919 under William Henry Jubb and Herbert William Needham (1874-1941). ‘Kirkham’ has not been traced. The partnership was dissolved in that year, but Needham continued. By the 1930s, Kirkham & Co was in Solly Street. Needham died on 14 May 1941, leaving £484 to his widow, Monica. Kirkham’s was next at Albert Works, Cambridge Street. An advertisement in The Ironmonger Diary (1952) stated that it specialised in high-class pen knives and was owned by M. Needham (possibly Monica, who died in 1952, aged 69). Interestingly, The Ironmonger also advertised Wm. Needham, with the same illustration as Kirkham’s. The latter ceased business in about 1958.
