This firm was launched in 1923 as a manufacturer of sporting gun cleaning implements and hunting flasks by Arnold Culf (1883-1943) – son of Carrington Culf (see Arthur Culf) – and Samuel Bennett Kay (1874-1936). In 1936, Culf & Kay began supplying electro-plate goods to the trade (Scott, 19801). After Arnold’s death, A. C. Culf re-established the firm as a pewter ware manufacturer, after acquiring the pewter and electro-plate trade of Harrison Fisher. Culf & Kay (Sheffield) Ltd was incorporated in 1948, using the trade mark ‘CULFONIA’. It acquired dram flask maker H. N. Hewitt & Co Ltd. By the 1960s, the address was Armada Works, Wellington Street. The company was dissolved in 2003, when the office was in St Mary’s Road.
