John Hadfield (c.1821-1874) was born in Sheffield. In 1849, he was listed as a table knife manufacturer in Backfields, with a residence in Coalpit Lane. Possibly he was related to John Hadfield, a bone haft and scale cutter in Coalpit Lane in 1837. He later manufactured table knives in West Street and lived in Hodgson Street. He died there on 19 March 1874, aged 53, and was buried in Burngreave Cemetery. He left under £800. His executors were his son, John Verdon Hadfield (a butcher), and John Knowles.
