According to an advertisement in 1859, this table knife and scissors firm began in 1810 and was ‘late John Green’. This was presumably John Green, table and scissors manufacturer and cutlery founder, who was active in Burgess Street between the 1820s and mid-1840s. Samuel Green was apparently his son, who was born to John (and wife Elizabeth) on 12 November 1825. Samuel’s venture was at Holly Green (or Holly) Works in Button Lane. Subsequent listings for Samuel described him as a wood, brass, ivory, and stone turner. He died at Cambridge Street on 2 August 1863 and was buried in the General Cemetery.
