This enterprise began in about 1920 as Fleming, Son & Davies at Orient Works, Cambridge Street. The partners were William Henry Fleming (1862-1935) and his son, James Lionel Fleming (1889-1942); and Arthur Davies (who was apparently listed in the directory in 1919 as a cutlery manager, residing in Penrhyn Road). W. H. Fleming had previously been a surgical instrument maker. The firm specialised in stainless and electro-plate table cutlery and canteens, using the trade name ‘EFFANESS’. In 1922, the partnership with Davies ended and the Flemings, father and son, continued to trade from Taurus Works, Thomas Lane. They were joined by W. H. Fleming’s other son, Harold (1900-1955). Fleming & Sons was listed until the 1960s. W. H. Fleming died on 6 December 1935, leaving £2,375; James Lionel on 2 September 1942, leaving £3,779; and Harold on 24 April 1955, leaving £6,152.
