Apparently established in 1922, Dronfield Tool Co was incorporated in 1932 with a capital of £2,000. The address was Callywhite Lane, Dronfield. The directors were Dr Howard Bennett Fletcher (1857-1939), The Grange, Dronfield, and William D. Jamieson, Shaftesbury Avenue, Chesterfield. Fletcher was a wealthy medical man, who invested in local manufacturing. Jamieson was works manager and also involved with Dominion Steel Corporation Ltd. Dronfield Tool Co manufactured hammers, axes, and tools for the handyman. The firm also marketed ‘PIXIE’ safety razors, which were presumably factored. Production of these blades was brief – from the late 1930s until about 1948 – though Dronfield’s continued as a tool maker. Fletcher died on 6 September 1939, leaving £51,892, and was buried at Dronfield (Derbyshire Times & Chesterfield Herald, 15 September 1939).
