In 1841, Charles Dewsnap was a cutler, living in Trippet Lane with his parents: Thomas, a razor smith, and Ann Nelson. Charles’s brother was Enos Dewsnap. Originally listed as a pen and pocket knife maker, by 1849 Charles was a scale spring and shield manufacturer, German silver and brass founder, and ironmonger in Trip-pet Lane. By 1856, he had moved to Hollis Croft. An advertisement (1868) showed that he made caps, guards, and castings for Bowie knives. In 1888, he sold his stock and tools in Hollis Croft. He died on 2 May 1892, aged 73, and was buried in Fulwood. He left £80.
