Stanley Charles Dove (1872-1956) was born at Deptford, Kent, the third son of George (a draper) and his wife, Ellen. Stanley moved to Sheffield and in 1905 married Elizabeth Georgiana Woodhead. In 1911, Dove & Co was listed as a merchant and cutlery manufacturer, White Buildings, Fitzalan Square. Stanley lived at Northumberland Road. His trade mark was ‘LEEBA’, which was listed in the Register of the Cutlers’ Company (Whitham & Vickers, 19191). However, by then Stanley C. Dove was a ‘manufacturers’ agent’, Parker’s Road, and no longer listed as a cutlery merchant in his own right. By the mid-1920s, he had accepted a post as company secretary at confectionery manufacturer George Bassett & Co. He died at Maple Bank, Broomhall Road, on 21 January 1956, aged 83. He left £7,017.
