Most likely James Lawrence Castiglioni [sometimes spelt Castiglione] (1846-1931). Born in Guisborough he was the son of Swiss merchant/traveller who settled in East Yorkshire selling hardware. James established a shop/bazaar in Redcar which operated between 1876/79. However, he had moved to Sheffield not long after his marriage to Ada Brelstaff in 1876 were 4 of his 5 children were born between 1877 and 1883. He lived with his wife Ada at 56 Nether Edge Road with his occupation listed as General Factor and Traveller. This and his subsequent occupations suggest he was not involved in manufacture, but possibly commissioned knives to sell from an unknown manufacturer in the city and stamped J L Castiglione.
He did not live long in Sheffield and by 1891 he was in Stoke Newington in North London where he is listed as a Merchant. Selling was clearly his line of business and by 1901 he is listed as an auctioneer followed in 1911 by him being listed as a Fine Art Dealer. Not long after in 1912 he appeared in the Central Criminal Court and was found guilty of Deception.
He remained in Stoke Newington where he died on 3 Mar 1931 leaving £24 (his wife died not long after leaving £2,169).
