John Broadhead (c.1784-1849) was listed in 1833 as a scissors chaser in Carver Street. By 1837, he was a scissors manufacturer in Fitzwilliam Street. In 1839, he was in partnership with Joseph Burgin in the style of Burgin & Broadhead, makers of fine scissors and tailors’ shears. This was dissolved at the beginning of 1842. Another partnership with Henry George Hall and John Taylor (as Broadhead, Hall & Co, scissors manufacturer, Eldon Street) was also short-lived, since Taylor had died by October 1842 (Sheffield Independent, 22 October 1842). The remaining partners continued the business in Eldon Street, which was last listed in 1849. However, John Broadhead died in Hanover Square on 13 January 1849, aged 65. He and his wife, Amelia (d. 16 July 1845, aged 54), were buried in St Peter’s churchyard. George Wilkin became Broadhead, Hall’s ‘successor’.
