Samuel Bromley (c.1791-1857) was born at Norton, Derbyshire. In the directory (1837) and Census (1841), he was a table blade forger at Portobello – though he later became a grocer (with his son Thomas). By 1851, he had left the town to farm at Fulwood. He died at Portobello Street on 9 September 1857, leaving under £200. A fine horsehead Bowie knife by Bromley is pictured in Parker (1986)1.
