Burgon, Green & Co was active after about 1816, first at Green Lane and then during the 1820s at Paradise Square. It was a saw manufacturer and merchant, which sold scythes, hay and straw knives, and table knives and forks. In 1830, the announcement of the firm’s dissolution listed the partners: William Burgon, Thomas Green, Peter Cadman, William Broadhurst, and George Deakin (London Gazette, 12 February 1830). The latter continued to trade alone, but was bankrupt in 1834 (Derby Mercury, 9 July 1834). Meanwhile, William Burgon, Peter Cadman, and William Cadman had formed Burgon & Cadmans, saw and scythe manufacturer, at Paradise Square. But William Burgon died on 4 June 1835 (aged 42) and the enterprise was dissolved (Sheffield Independent, 6 June 1835). Peter Cadman & Sons was its ‘successor’.
