Advertisment from White's General directory of Sheffield, 1845
In 1845, William Shallcross advertised as a manufacturer of spoons, forks, ladles, table, dessert, and fruit knives at 64 Trinity Street. Apparently, a few years previously he was a manager for John Harrison in Scotland Street (Sheffield Independent, 25 September 1841). He is elusive in the Census, though a William Shallcross (aged 31), ‘commercial traveller’, was listed in the Census (1851) in Hanover Street. He was living with his wife, Maria, and their family. He was not listed subsequently. Perhaps he died or left Sheffield. An individual named William Shallcross died, aged 57, in London in 1878.
