Charles Cantrell (c.1820-1871) advertised in the directory (1859) as a manufacturer of table knives (besides butchers’, cook, palette, farriers’, and glaziers’ knives). He was based in Chester Street until about 1870, when he moved to Clarence Street. By then, he combined knife manufacture with shop keeping and work as a property agent and collector. He died in Clarence Street on 14 April 1871, aged 51, after ‘a long and painful illness, borne with great patience’ (Sheffield Daily Telegraph, 15 April 1871). He was buried in Ecclesall.
