This scissor smith was born in Darnall in about 1822. He was the son of Samuel, a scissor smith, and his wife, Elizabeth. William was listed as a fine scissors and tailors’ shears manufacturer in Spring Street (1852) and Dunfields (1860, 1863). In 1861, he employed four men, and was living in Shepherd Street with an apprentice. Wynn apparently had no family and he often lived in lodgings. His name was spelled variously in the sources as Wynn, Wim, or Winn. William Wynne was buried in Attercliffe on 13 February 1879, aged 57. He lived in ‘north Sheffield’, but the death was apparently not reported in the newspapers.
