This scissors manufacturer was born in Sheffield in 1825. He was the son of William Whitworth, a scissor smith, and brother of Joseph. In 1846, William Jun. married Mary Ann Bower (Sheffield Independent, 28 February 1846). In the Census (1851), he was living in Victoria Street and working as a scissors manager. Presumably, the Wheeldon Street business – which was advertised in 1860 as a fine scissors manufacturer – was operated by William Jun. However, William died at Brightmore Street on 29 November 1860, aged 35. His obituary described him as a scissors manufacturer of Red Hill (Sheffield Independent, 1 December 1860). Confusingly, ‘William Whitworth’ was listed in directories as a scissors manufacturer in Wheeldon Street (1861) and at 235 Solly Street; h. Red Hill (1862).
