This table knife maker and factor was listed in 1816 at South Street and Duke Street. The partners – John Webb (c.1791-1865) and John Schofield – parted in 1818. John Schofield’s later career is uncertain (he may have become a grocer). Webb continued to work as a traveller and then commission agent. In 1828, his address was Arundel Street, corner of Furnival Street. In 1831, he was a ‘wholesale dealer’ in rope, millboard, steel and metal goods, and prime papers. According to the Census, he was a ‘paper dealer’ (1851) and ‘accountant and collector’ (1861). John Webb died at his residence, Ecclesall Road, on 21 September 1965, aged 74. He was buried at the General Cemetery.
