Taylor Bros Cutlery was based at Hamilton, Ontario. It can be traced to Enoch Taylor (1860-1906), who was born in Sheffield, the son of Enoch and his wife, Ann. Enoch Sen. was described variously in the Census as a spring-knife cutler, grinder, and furniture broker. In 1881, the family was living in Nottingham, where Enoch Jun. was following his father’s trade as a cutler and grinder. In 1885, Enoch Jun. journeyed to Hamilton, where he began a small grinding shop. The firm was based in McNab Street, where Enoch gradually began to expand his operations. He died in 1906, but his sons (Arthur, Albert, and Herbert) continued the business (Goins, 19981). In 1916, Taylor Bros Cutlery began producing straight razors. When this market declined after the First World War, the firm marketed kitchen cutlery and butcher’s knives. By the 1920s, it was reputed to be the largest cutlery manufacturer in Canada. It remained in production after the Second World War.
