George Rawlins, as a scissor...">
John Bagshaw (c.1774-1857) was born at Ecclesall. He partnered George Rawlins, as a scissors maker, but this was dissolved in 1820. He was next a fine scissors (and table knife and razor) manufacturer and factor in Button Lane. The firm became ‘& Sons’, though in 1827 the partnership between John, George, and Joseph Bagshaw ended. George Bagshaw began his own scissors business in Rockingham Street, but was bankrupt in 1834 and sold his stock and personal effects (Sheffield Independent, 4 January 1834). In 1835, he was sentenced to two years’ hard labour for stealing 2,000 scissors (value £100) from his father’s workshop.
John Bagshaw, ‘gentleman’, Tom Cross Lane, died on 20 October 1857, aged 83. He was buried in the General Cemetery.
