Richard Francis Pasley (1849-1937) was born at Gringley on the Hill, Nottinghamshire, the son of Joseph, a grocer and draper, and his wife, Winifred. By 1861, the Pasleys had moved to Sheffield, where they became involved in silverware, electro-plate, and steel labelling punches. Richard started as a merchant’s clerk, but by the late 1870s had launched a business in steel, cutlery and electro-plate goods. He advertised in 1879 from Anchor Works, Rockingham Street. In 1881, he lived in Chippinghouse Road and employed two men and two boys. In the mid-1880s, he moved his mark and letter business to Mary Street. He later became a general merchant and manufacturer, sometimes dealing in timber. Richard F. Pasley, of Brinkwood, Brincliffe, died at Byron Road on 5 December 1937, aged 88. He left £15,909.
