William Parker
William (1815-1880), Joseph Gilbert (1819-1879), and Elliott (1826-1854) were the sons of William Parker and his wife, Catherine. They were baptised at Nether Chapel in Norfolk Street. They followed their father into the American trade. By 1841, William and Joseph Gilbert were in partnership as merchants and manufacturers, at Eagle Place, 76 Eyre Street. In 1848, William left the partnership and thereafter operated from Eagle Place, 25 Carver Street – an address once occupied by William Stenton & Son. Joseph and Elliott formed Parker Bros in Eyre Street. Elliott took up residence in New York, where the brothers had an office in Pearl Street and later in Platt Street. Joseph and Elliott dissolved Parker Bros in 1852. Elliott died at Broomhall Place on 26 April 1854, aged 26, from ‘inflammation of the brain’. He was buried in the General Cemetery. Joseph moved to London and died at Notting Hill Gate on 16 April 1879, leaving under £3,000. William continued to export cutlery and hardware through a New York outlet until 1858 and had an office in Carver Street until about 1863. He was retired and living in New Porter Street by 1871. He died on 3 February 1880, aged 64, and was buried in an unconsecrated grave in the General Cemetery.
