William Wasnidge, haft presser, died on 13 December 1825, aged 79. Another William Wasnidge (c.1778-1865) – probably the latter’s son – was active in Pond Street as a haft and scale presser. He was first listed in 1818. The baptism of William Wastnedge (sic) was recorded at the parish church on 1 January 1779: the parents were William (a cutler) and Mary. The Wasnidge family had links with the Levicks (see John Levick), who were also horn traders. However, William’s links with other Wasnidges (or the Levicks) have not been explored. He seems to have traded independently. He had retired by 1851, when he was aged 72. He told the Census that his occupation was ‘horn presser past work’. He lived with his wife, Sarah, and their son, Henry, who was continuing his father’s trade. William died in Pond Street on 10 June 1865, aged 87, leaving under £1,000. Henry had died in 1862 (aged 43); Sarah had predeceased her husband in 1857, aged 71. They were interred in the General Cemetery.
