The brothers were William (1847-1928) and Washington (1856-1892), who were the sons of Charles Hill (1826-1899) and his wife, Mary Ann. Charles was a brass, ivory, horn and bone turner and maker of horn and stag handles at Burgess Street Horn Works. His sons took over in about 1890 (though a start date of 1792 was advertised). Charles died on 14 November 1899, leaving £5,809. Washington died on 26 November 1892, but William continued the firm. Hill Bros moved to Broom Close and Club Gardens in about 1900. William died on 14 January 1928, aged 81, leaving £8.801. The Hills’ unconsecrated graves are in the General Cemetery. The firm operated into the 1950s at Horn Handle Works, Broom Close (now a Grade II listed building).
