James Hancock, Holly Street. The Hancock b...">
This silver and electro-plate firm had its origins in James Hancock, Holly Street. The Hancock brothers were Percy Griffin Hancock (1870-1899) and Ernest Henry Hancock (1873-1942), who were the sons of Henry Hancock (electro-plater) and his wife, Sarah Elizabeth. The other partner was George Henry Hutchinson. Like James Hancock, the address was Holly Street. Hancock Brothers & Hutchinson was active by the 1890s, but was dissolved in 1896. However, the Hancocks continued to trade under the old style. Percy G. Hancock, Havelock Square, died on 2 June 1899. He left £4,916. Ernest continued the business in Holly Street, but by 1911 had left Sheffield to live in Canada. He died in Vancouver on 20 April 1942, aged 67.
