This firm registered a silver mark from Furnival Street in 1896. In 1900, Watson & Gillott was based in Caledonia Plate Works, Eyre Lane, as manufacturers of holloware, cased goods, spoons and forks, with ‘repairs and re-plating a speciality’. The partners were William Joseph Watson (1873-1967) and Herbert Heiffor Gillott (1875-1944) Watson had been born in Sheaf Gardens, the son of a Sheffield silversmith (and publican), Joseph Watson, and his wife Mary Jane. Gillott was born and bred in Heeley. He was the son of George William Gillott (see W. Gillott), a pearl fluter, and his wife Ellen Arnold. Watson & Gillott operated in Eyre Lane until the start of the Second World War. Herbert H. Gillott, Broomgrove Road, died on 15 August 1944, leaving £922.
