William Gallimore (1796-1860...">
Elizabeth Gallimore neé Gibson (1798-1882) was the wife of William Gallimore (1796-1860), a German silversmith of School Croft. They had married in 1819. Elizabeth’s name first appeared in a directory of 1852 as Mrs William Gallimore, a German silver spoon manufacturer at 42 School Croft. That address became known as Gallimore’s Yard, School Croft. It appears that William and Elizabeth had separated. Besides spoons, she sold British plate, forks, sugar tongs, and soup ladles. Other Gallimores were involved in the enterprise. The General Cemetery register noted the sudden death on 2 January 1870 of Thomas Gallimore, silversmith (42 School Croft). He was the 40-year-old son of William and Elizabeth. Elizabeth was listed in directories as a manufacturer until 1865. She died at Bridge Street on 26 February 1882, aged 84 – ‘relict of the late William Gallimore’ – and was buried in the General Cemetery. She left £825.
