Simeon Dewsnap was born in 1816. He was the son of John Dewsnap, fender maker of Garden Street, and his wife, Charlotte. He was the brother of John and James (see Dewsnap Bros). By 1849, he was listed in St Thomas Street, Portobello, as a German silver and brass founder and manufacturer of pen and pocket knife scales and springs. He died from ‘apoplexy’ on 22 December 1853, aged 37, and was buried in the General Cemetery. He had been a Town Councillor: ‘a thoroughly earnest and honest man; and those who differed from him on public matters could rely upon the integrity of his motives’ (Sheffield Independent, 24 December 1853).
