The firm was registered as a private limited company in 1936, with £8,000 capital, and James Andrews and Clarence Cam (1885-1976) as directors. It apparently purchased the assets of Croft Cutlery Forging Co Ltd, Croft Works, John Street, after that firm was liquidated in 1934. Serrated Knives was not a success. In 1939, the receiver for the debenture holders offered the business for sale as a going concern. The plant and machinery of this ‘modern works premises’ included grinding and planing machines, shaping and drilling equipment, annealing furnaces, and dies for carving blades (Sheffield Daily Telegraph, 24 June 1939).
