Originally Austin Nicholson, this firm from about 1904 marketed butchers’ and table steels at Rockhill Works, Victoria Street, with a forge in Rockingham Lane. Jones is unidentified; but the Longbottoms were Reuben (1852-1924) and his nephew Albert Kirk Longbottom (1869-1944). The family had come from Retford, Nottinghamshire. Reuben died on 13 May 1924, aged 72, leaving £3,025. The firm became a private limited company in 1929. Albert died at Retford on 21 August 1944, aged 74, leaving £10,438. The enterprise was in Victoria Street after the War, though a new factory was built in Solly Street in 1951. By the 1990s, the address was Rockhill Works, Garden Street. By 1998, it had merged with William Walton and was eventually acquired by Egginton, which dissolved the firm in 2000.
