George Buxton and his wife Elizabet...">
Born in Sheffield in 1839, George Albert Buxton was the son of George Buxton and his wife Elizabeth. According to the 1861 Census, his first job was as an assistant ironmonger. In 1865, he became a partner with William Mammatt in the silver firm of Mammatt, Buxton & Co. That partnership was dissolved in 1867 and George Albert Buxton then established his own silver and electro-plate business in Eyre Street. However, by 1871 he was a hay, straw, and corn dealer in Ellin Street. Later he left Sheffield and in the Census (1881) was enumerated in Sutton-on-Trent, Nottinghamshire, where he was living on a private income from houses. He died there on 29 July 1887, aged 47, leaving £19,436.
