Alfred Biggin (1836-1896) was the third son of Isaac Biggin and his wife Maria (c.1799-1871). The Biggins later specialised in silver cap and ferrule manufacturer. Alfred’s brother, John, launched John Biggin Ltd. Alfred himself trained as a silversmith and was living in Highfield in 1861. His son, George Henry Biggin (1860-1939), registered a silver mark in 1893 from Arundel Street. Apparently, Alfred Biggin & Son – silver and German silver handles, cap, and ferrule manufacturer – appeared at about that date. Alfred Biggin himself died in Thirwell Road, Heeley, on 14 June 1896. He left £188 to his widow Mary Ann. George Henry continued the business under the old style in Arundel Street, later bringing his son Henry Raymond into the business. The firm seems to have been wound up at the end of the 1920s. George Henry Biggin, Birch Farm Avenue, died on 23 April 1939, leaving £2,552.
