In 1845, Henry Wilkinson was listed as a manufacturer of Britannia metal wares. He had been born in Sheffield in about 1813 and (according to the Census, 1841) was a white metal smith, living in St John’s Road, Park. His business location varied, but his address was usually in the Wicker and Park (including South Street and Broad Street). In 1863, the business was not listed: however, Henry Wilkinson, general printer and stationer, was listed in that year in Broad Street. By 1868, Henry Wilkinson was based in Eyre Street, where he manufactured (or marketed) Britannia metal and electro-plate wares. His family lived in Ecclesall Road. He died, aged 61, on 30 April 1874 and was buried at Ecclesall. He left under £200. At that time, he operated from Arundel Works in Eyre Lane. The business continued at that address until about 1883, when it was superseded by Wilkinson Bros, a Britannia metal manufacturer, in Eyre Street. The partners were Henry’s sons John, Frederick, Albert, Benjamin, and Henry (the latter having been a partner in the previous Eyre Lane business). In 1883, the firm failed with debts of £400, but resumed trading. By 1902, Wilkinson Bros was based in Boston Works, Boston Street; by 1910, at Eclipse Works, Boston Street. It ceased trading during the First World War.
