The first Elihu Parker to appear in the apprenticeship records of the Company of Cutlers was the son of Thomas (a cutler). He became a Freeman in 1734. Elihu’s son was also named Elihu. He was baptised at Upper Chapel on 24 December 1741; and became a Freeman in 1763. Elihu Sen. had another son, Samuel, who became a Freeman in 1777 (possibly the Samuel listed in 1787 making table knives at Scotland Street, trade mark ‘YTHEL’).
Elihu Jun. appeared in the Sheffield directory (1774) as a table knife cutler at Pea Croft. His trade mark was a Maltese Cross and ‘PARKER’. He married Ann Binks in 1761 and had at least three children, who were baptised at Nether Chapel: Elihu (bapt. 1765); Rebekah (bapt. 1776); and John (bapt. 1777). Elihu at Pea Croft had died by 1786, when he was referred to as ‘late’ in a land tax document. In the Sheffield directory (1787), Ann Parker was listed as a table knife maker at Pea Croft, using her husband’s mark. She was not featured in the Sheffield directory of 1797.
