Henry Thomas Canty (1886-1973) was a cutlery and fancy goods dealer, whose name can be found on pocket and novelty knives. He was the son of Henry Canty, a file-cutting machine operative, and his wife Emily. Henry Thomas was trained as a machine tool maker. By 1931, he had established his own business in St Thomas Street and within a couple of years had moved to Furnival Street. He apparently retired in the 1950s and the owner became John William Stacey, who owned H. T. Canty & Co and Mansell Tool Co at Wallace Works, Furnival Street. In 1961, however, Stacey was bankrupt.
