Benjamin Brammar was born at Penistone on 5 September 1799, the son of John and Mary (formerly Balm). In 1854, Benjamin’s firm was listed as a manufacturer of pocket knives in Radford Street. He advertised in the directory (1860). Benjamin was living in Channing Street in 1861, with Joseph Brammar (his son) next door. The latter was enumerated in the Census as an employer of ten men and three boys. Benjamin Brammar, Radford Street died, aged 76, after a ‘lingering illness’ on 25 March 1876. He had been a Wesleyan Methodist for 56 years. Joseph died on 18 May 1884, aged 58, and the Radford Street firm ceased trading. No trade mark has been traced.
